Yi Quan is an internal Chinese martial art that combines the concepts of Xingyiquan, the suppleness of Taiji Quan, and the agility of Baguazhang into a single art. It is a simple, subtle and refined art. Although Yi Quan is supposed to be a fighting style, it focuses more on the development of qualities such as power, speed, agility, coordination, and endurance through the loosening and tightening of the muscles. Yi Quan, therefore, is intended to achieve good health and longevity through practice.

Yi Quan's movements include stances that use the mind to guide movements and actions in order to achieve coordination and cooperation between the mind, the body, and the external world. One of the major features of Yi Quan is the fact that it does not have fixed forms and that it stresses mental function that requires relaxation, concentration, and calmness. Practitioners of this art claim that is is an effective art of combat as well as exercise.
