Ya Quan or Duck Fist is a martial art that imitates the movements of ducks. Despite its somewhat unusual appearance, Ya Quan is recognized as an effective self-defense style of combat. A fighter who uses the Ya Quan style employs a waddling footwork that conceals fast and devastating kicks and sweeps. Ya Quan's hand techniques include knifehands, punches, and flaps that can be applied as both offensive and defensive techniques, similar to the styles of White Crane. The movements in this art are all featured in pairs and it observes strict symmetry between left and right. These movements are chracterized by long, graceful, fluid actions that are beautiful to watch.
