Traditional Arnis –is a system founded and formulated by Grandmaster Dr. Jonathan Makiling Abaya to uncover the science of Filipino Stick and Knife fighting system of self-defense called “baot”. It is a term he used to identify his stick-fighting art to distinguish it from the other system developed from the southern part of the Philippines. The art honors the untouched ancestral warrior’s fighting system and traditional culture of the north. Baot is a Philippine Ilocano word means “to whip” or “to hit”. It is used as a substitute to the northern traditional long bladed fighting art called “Buning” or “Buneng”.

The Jendo Traditional arnis or baot was primarily devised to introduce the age-old stick-fighting format for school teaching purposes.

The method bears the longtime-honored conventional theories of Filipino Stick-fighting art using the scientific concepts and philosophy of Grandmaster Abaya's Jendo martial art.

The system has already been introduced to numerous numbers of students and school teachers since 1985 and to some law enforcers in the Philippines during the 90’s. At present it is being practiced and adapted for school teaching by physical education professors and teachers in many colleges and universities inside and outside the Philippines.
