Tenshin Shoden Katori Shinto Ryu is one of the oldest koryu budo in Japan and the first Japanese martial art to receive the Intangible Cultural Asset designation from the Japanese government in 1960. It is a comprehensive martial art system that includes the arts of Sui-ren (swimming), Hojutsu (musketry), Bajutsu (horsemanship), and Kyujutsu or Kyudo (archery), and other bujutsu/budo disciplines in its training curriculum. However, the main focus of this martial art is the practice of sword fighting, or Kenjutsu.
