Tegumi (手組) or "hand grapple" was the term used to describe the hand-flow and grappling aspect of old-style Karate. It is the traditional Okinawan martial art of wrestling. It features common flow transitions and responses to various attacks, both from a standing position and for defense on the ground. It emphasizes the principles used in close-range fighting where grappling is common and often coupled with striking.
