Street Fighter 2: Champion Edition or Street Fighter 92 was simply an update that gave the fans what they wanted, and is to be able to play as the four boss characters. The boss characters, which were Balrog, Vega, Sagat and M.Bison, were not playable in the original release. This drove players crazy trying to find a way to select them but it wasn't until this release that it was actually possible.
Unlike the previous version which had eleven matches in the single player mode, Champion Edition had twelve. This meant, even in the single player game, that players can fight a clone of the fighter they have selected. To avoid confusion in the fights so the players don't get their character mixed with the opponent's, a new color of costume is available for each character. Many of the backgrounds were also slightly altered. Ryu's stage, for example, which had a red sunset sky in the previous version, now has the stage set at night and Guile's stage, which was set during the day is now set at the early evening. There are other changes too, such as the colour of the carpet on Dhalsim's stage, but most of them are minor and they retain their basic look. Furthermore, in this version, the character select portraits have been redrawn to make the characters look older and tougher.
