SOKE Nathaniel Abdullaah McBride started his martial arts training in the early 1950's at the age of 14 years old. In 1956 he enrolled in the United States Army at the age of 18 and embarked upon a military boxing career. While in the army, SOKE McBride started training in judo and upon his return to the United States he studied Shotokan Karate under Grand Master Reno Morales. In 1960 he began to study Sanuces Ryu Jiu Jitsu under The Legendary Dr. Moses Powell.
SOKE McBride decided to follow the path of his two Instructors after training in Gung-Fu for a while, and thus he joined forces with Grand Master James Walter Yates. Together in 1965 they opened the Yate's Forrest & McKinley Karate Club in the Bronx, New York, and they produced two top world class martial arts practitioners, Sayfullaah Al-Amriykiy and Derrick Williams.
As it would be decreed, Sayfullaah would move to Philadelphia, PA., and SOKE McBride opened and headed the Bronx Shotokan Karate-Do Club with his student Derrick Williams. Grand Master James W. Yates passed away sometime after this. SOKE McBride also became proficient in the use of various weapons during the 1970's.
SOKE McBride also studied Oikiro-Ryu Aiki-Jujitsu and Hakko-Ryu Jujitsu and earned the rank of 8th Degree Black Belt in both systems during the 1980's. It was in 1985 that SOKE McBride began to structure his system along with the help of his student Sayfullaah Al-Amriykiy. SOKE McBride and his student Sayfullaah named the new system - Nat McBride's Kyo-Jutsu Karate.
On August 21, 1994, at a Special Awards Banquet held by the American Jujutsu Academy of Philadelphia, PA., SOKE McBride was promoted to the rank of 9th Degree Black Belt – Grand Master in Sanuces Ryu Jiu Jitsu by The Legendary Dr. Moses Powell. This was the first time that anyone in the Family of Sanuces was awarded this prestigious rank.
At the turn of the Century, in the Year 2000 (the new millennium) SOKE McBride made some improvements in his system and named Professor Sayfullaah Al-Amriykiy as His Successor (Heir). To date, SOKE McBride has trained various Law Enforcement Officers and Agencies, and serves as a Positive Role Model for our youth! SOKE McBride served 24 years on active duty in the United States Military and 27 years with the New York City Transit Authority.
Demonstrating that one is never too old to learn and that education is a very important component in our lives, SOKE Nathaniel McBride received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Religion and Education from the Charles Memorial Institute on May 21, 1994.
