Scimitar

The Scimitar, also known as Scymitar and Scimiter is a middle eastern sword characterized by a broad, curved blade ending in a uniquely upturned point. While most associate a scimitar with the broad bladed weapons popularized by the Tales of Sinbad, many scimitars were actually rather narrow bladed weapons along the lines of the Indian shamshir or Persian talwar. The Turkish scimitar is probably the most well-recognized examples of the weapon and the broadest tip of any scimitar style weapon. The falchion developed in part from the scimitar design (and also from the Egyptian khopesh). The style and function of the scimitar was most recently displayed the European cutlass.
