San Shou is a Chinese martial art that was originally developed by the Chinese Military based upon intense studies of various traditional Kung Fu styles in the early 1900s. It is a complete self-defense system that teaches punching, kicking, knees, elbows, kick-catches, sweeps, takedowns, and throws. San Shou was created by the Chinese Military specifically for close-quarters combat.
Techniques in San Shou are executed standing up at all times. The creators of this style believe in the theory that the majority of the attacks on a person happen when he or she is standing up. Basing their style on this study, the Chinese Military took what they believe is the most effective self-defense techniques from different styles of Kung Fu.
