Mukna

Mukna is the traditional martial art of wrestling in the Manipura region of India. This art is somewhat a cross between wrestling and judo although the gameplay is very dfferent. The wrestlers are not allowed to use their hands as in the freestyle wrestling. It is a very intriguing skill and body maneuvering sport. The winner of the game is declared as soon as the opponent is on his back or by making him touch the ground with one of his hands or knees. For this sport, one is required to possess a lot of strength, skill and patience.

Mukna is a highly popular and prestigious sport. In earlier times it enjoyed royal patronage and athletes competed in weight classes. The game is traditionally performed during the closing ceremonies of the Lai Haraoba festival.
