Muay Boran

Muay Boran is the ancient predeccesor of the modern martial art of Muay Thai. This traditional martial art of Thailand emphasizes the use of extremely powerful elbow and knee techniques, and combinations of both always thrown at full force and speed, with the intent to overcome one's adversary as quickly as possible. Muay Boran is categorized into 4 major disciplines, based according to the location of origin. These are Muay Thasao (North), Muay Korat (North-East), Muay Lobburee (Central region) and Muay Chaiya (South). These discplines are all combined and encapsulted in a phrase: "Punch Korat, Wit Lobburee, Posture Chaiya, Faster Thasao".

Presently, Muan Boran is seldom taught at traditional fighting schools because of its deadly techniques. It is also one of the reasons why many of its combat style are forbidden in Muay Thai tournaments.
