Lau Gar is a southern style Chinese martial art which originated in the Kuei Ling Temple in western China. It focuses on short-range fighting using mostly open-hand strikes; most kicks are to the abdomen or below. Lau Gar uses both internal and external skills. It is one one of the Five Major Southern Family Styles, created by Lau Samngan, who studied under Ji Shin, one of the Five Elders of Shaolin. The study of several different weapons is part of this style, and also the Five Animals: Crane, Dragon, Leopard, Snake, and Tiger.
