Lai Tung Pai, also known as Poon Kuen or "Circle Fist," is an internal Chinese martial art that originated in the 17th century CE. It is similar to Wing Chun; however, this style combines both long fist (Changquan) and short fist (Nan Quan) techniques. It also teaches students traditional Chinese medicine as part of its curriculum.
History
Lai Tung Pai originated in the Henan Shaolin Temple and then spread to Guangdong Province in southeast China. It was first made famous by the monk known as Poon Kuen who lived in Lai Tung village. It became even more popular in Hong Kong under the Grandmaster Kong Hoi.
Training
This art consists of 12 empty-hand forms and 10 weapons forms. There is also Lion Dancing and luk sao or chi sao ("sticky hands") training, as well as use of the Mook Jong (wooden dummy), similar to Wing Chun.
