Musul, Moosae or Muye is the term used to denote Korean martial arts which is actually a collection of martial arts that were developed or modified in Korea. Examples of this kind of art are Taekwondo and Hapkido, which are said to be modifications of Japanese martial arts such as Karate, Judo, and Aikido. The origins of the modern Korean martial arts is still a matter of debate.

History

Korea, being a land mass that sits between China and Japan, is still under a wide range of controversies, especially concerning the topics of culture and martial arts. We can say that Korea has a distinct culture and history of its own; however, many of the ancient martial arts traditions found there are either broken or discontinued. Because of the prevalent Confucian (non-Buddhist) culture that existed in Korea for centuries, the Japanese Occupation and other historical factors, many of its traditional arts survived only in fragmentary records, while others have been preserved in more-or-less complete form. Taek Kyon, for instance, is one of the few moosae that survives in Korea that is unblemished by foreign influence.
