The Karategi is the traditional uniform (gi) worn by a Karateka which is very similar to the Judogi in style because of their common origin. However, the Karategi is made from a much lighter material and has a loose fitting. The Karategi developed as a uniform made for more mobile stances and movements compared to the Judogi, this however makes the Karategi much less durible than the Judogi and thus not sutible for grappling practice. Many Karateka tend to wear their obi (belt) much longer than Judokas and other martial artists. A Karategi usually weighs around 8 to 10 oz. depending on the preference of the user.
