Jian is the term used to denote the Chinese double-edged straight sword that has been in use for the last 2,500 years. The average size of the sword is 28 inches, and the blade wieght is around 700-900 grams.

This sword is one of the most ancient weapons in Chinese martial arts history. Archaeologists have discovered these swords from as early as the Bronze Age.

The sword is one of the short weapons of Wushu and Tai Chi Chuan; it is usually light in weight, with a flexible blade. It has cutting edges on both sides, as well as a sharp tip for stabbing motions. At the base of the handle is a metal pommel that is used to strike backwards.
