It was known as the dagger-axe which was used by the infantry against horse-clad warriors. There are several types of Ji that fetures different kinds of heads: a rectangular, serrated blade instead of the crescent-formed one, or spear tips with two curved blades attached.

It could be used as an offensive weapon and a defensive one. The weilder could also strike with the shaft, or slpa his opponent using the flat surface of the weapon. Today, the Ji is still used as a training weapon in Wushu exercises.
