Gothic Armor

Evolving in Germany in the last quarter of the 15th century, the Gothic armor is considered to be the most attractive armor ever designed. Its tall, lean, sweeping lines reflected the current trends in art and architecture of its day. However, make no mistake; this is a highly functional suit of armor in addition to being a work of art.

It was intended specifically to offer a maximum degree of protection without sacrificing comfort and mobility. This was achieved by adding additional articulation to the cuisses (thigh plates), breast and back, and helmet. In addition, the components are strengthened with multiple flutes (small raised ridges in the steel), that provide extra rigidity. The result was a suit that was not only eminently practical, but one that is unsurpassed in grace and beauty.
