The Five Elders of Shaolin were the four monks and a nun who survived the destruction of the Shaolin temples in the 1600s CE by forces of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1912). The temples were destroyed in retaliation for elders stirring anti-Qing rebellion and trying to restore the Chinese Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). All five were masters of Kung Fu.
They included:
- Ji Shin - co-founder of the Five Major Southern Family Styles;
- the nun Ng Mui, who created the basis for Wing Chun;
- Miu Hin (Daoist) - founder of 18 Daoist Palms;
- Fong Do Duk (Daoist) - creator of Bak Fu Pai;
- and Bak Mei - eponymous founder of Bak Mei.
These five should not be confused with the five elders who created the Five Major Southern Family Styles of Kung Fu. The only link between the two groups is Ji Shin.
