Chin Na is an ancient martial art from China that features grappling for self-defence. Chin Na roughly means to "grab and hold", the implication being that once the grip is lost, the hold is maintained. It is believed that Shaolin Monks developed this martial art in the 10th century CE based on the principles of non-violence and compassion towards an aggressor. Chin Na's techniques include striking sensitive pressure points (Dim Mak) and joint locks. However, unlike other Kung Fu styles, Chin Na has no set forms; rather, a practitioner spends many years learning how the human body works by analyzing the human nervous system. This allows the Chin Na practitioner to use the least amount of energy when the need arises to paralyze an attacker.

Other experts believe that Chin Na is an internal style of martial arts becuase it does not deal force with force; rather, it redirects the force used by the attacker back to him/herself. Tai Chi Chuan, Shuai Jiao, and Eagle Claw are some other Kung Fu styles that incorporate Chin Na in their routines and practice.
