Capoeira is a Brazilian martial art that was developed by African slaves in Brazil during its colonial period. It is a combination of martial art, music and ritual performed inside a circle of participants called the roda. It incorporates acrobatics, feints, subterfuge, and groundwork by extensively using kicks, sweeps and headbutts against an opponent. Its beautiful display of fluid movement that closely resembles dancing was created to conceal the real nature of the martial art from the slave owners.
