Basilisk: The Kouga Ninja Scrolls is a manga, authored by Masaki Segawa and published in Japan in 2003 and 2004, based on novel The Kouga Ninja Scrolls by Futaro Yamada published in 1958. The anime, produced in 2005 by GONZO Studios.

Plot

Basilisk follows the war between two ninja clans - the Iga and the Kouga. A truce had halted their 400-year feud, but as the story begins, that truce is nullified. Just as the heirs of these clans are to wed and end the feud forever, the clans are plunged into a deadly contest pitting their greatest ninjas against each other in order to win 1000 years of succession rights.

Summary

Oboro of the Iga Clan and Gennosuke of the Kouga clan have found themselves in love, going against what their families have stood for forever, as they are on the verge of uniting the two clans through marriage thus in their minds easing the tension on the Hattori Peace Truce. Unbeknownst to them something has gone horribly wrong and the truce has been overturned.
