The Japanese term Aiki literally translates to "united energy" and refers to the concept of uniting with and redirecting the attacker’s force to use it against him rather than trying to physically overpower the attacker. It is the main idea behind such Japanese martial arts as Aikido, Aikijutsu, and Daito Ryu Aikijujutsu.
